I was on a Benzo for 22 years. One day the doctor said we are not doing this anymore. She claimed it was bad for my kidneys. Other doctors said they are addictive. They were not addictive. Had no problem getting off. The problem was the anxiety attacks started and my doctors refused to put me back on. Found a new doctor. These doctors are stopping to prescribe it because of the opate crisis. Opiate and benzos are deadly. But if you are not an opiate addict you should be able to get a unit-anziety med… And I don’t mean the anti-histamines (just makes you drowsy) the hospital gave me or the sleeping pills for nighttime. The doctors don’t want to be responsible if someone comes into the hospital and they give you some kind of opaite not know if you are on anti – anxiety meds. So it’s ok for patients to suffer.
I love my Xanax script but I’d have to be ignorant to say benzos aren’t overly prescribed

This ruins it for people who actually need it and take the meds right. It’s not the med itself that overdoses people. It’s when they don’t take it the way they’re supposed to..
Yes a drug crisis. Sadly once doctors get you on these meds you become a slave to them. I have chronic anxiety disorder..my first physician said I would never get better. Everyone needs to beware of doctors who keep throwing meds at you. It is better to find a good counselor before being prescribed meds.

Came of that med after 20 year nooooo problem at all. The anxiety = the problem !!!!! It does not go. I had my daughter with me loving me, so i was fine. This is mostly all very untrue. It is terrifying this effort to eliminate good medication. I suffer from debilitating anxiety attacks that last for months, benzodiazepines especially clonazepam have been life saving for me. Ive been taking it on and off for months at a time, the last few years, never had to increase the dose and always relieves anxiety to get me through horrible episodes. I had difficult deployments from my time in the military, and am thankful I can have somewhat a normal life. Ive done years of therapy, hypnosis, CBT, and others that have been helpful however medication has been the only succesful option to get through the attacks. I appreciate all of the concern but there are no other medications with our current technology to replace them. There has been work recently with psilocybin and even targeted lobotomy ( gamma ray encapsulation) but these options are years from being available. There are people that need it. I take mine correctly. I can’t stand to be myself cause of the way I feel with my anxiety. When I have my real bad attacks. That’s when I take it,I haven’t overdosed cause I take it like my dr tells me to.

A doctor knows to wing you off.
I saw this coming years ago and so I’m almost tapered off of my klonopin. Overdose from benzos happens when you drink/take opioids with them, but I’ve been on subs/benzos for 10 years. The sad thing is doctors only believe the w/d last for a couple of weeks and when ppl come in a month or two later complaining that the w/d are still happening the doctors right them off I think that anybody who has suffered as a result of these prescribing guidelines should work together to sue the CDC and state regulatory commissions back into the stone age!

"No more than 2-4 weeks" – Try 8 days on Ativan and ending up in acute w/d in the ER and on year 4 of a third reinstated taper and a shattered life. I would do anything to go back and try something pill free. Yes I was having chronic panic attacks for a week after an acupuncture treatment, but who knows what would have happened if I waited it out, got through the healing crisis reaction and tried CBD and de-stressing techniques and ate better food, and got out of the stressful environment I was in first. I’d give anything to go back to that time even if I was pretty miserable and I wish the doctor told me no when I asked for emergency benzos.

The news likes to trigger emotional reactions in people who don’t know any better so that they can push an agenda. These meds can and do help people, especially when taken in the short-term. Omg it’s been a huge problem for atleast 15 years now, I knew people even 20 years back that abused them. However 20 years ago, even 15 years ago no one knew they were addictive. Atleast most people did not know, not only are they addictive but you can actually die from the withdrawals. Also most of the time , depending on the quantity and length of someone’s use the withdrawals are usually 20 times worse than opiates.
