Choose The Right Probiotic For Your Dog

Choose The Right Probiotic For Your Dog

Chances are, your dog will need help with his gut health at some point … so you’re looking for the best probiotic to give him.

When you start looking at all the different probiotics out there, it can get really confusing. Some are expensive, some are cheap, and most of them have names you can barely pronounce! So, where do you start?

It can seem daunting … but it doesn’t have to be. Dana Scott from Dogs Naturally Magazine has put together the top 5 things you need to look for BEFORE you buy that probiotic.

In this video, you’ll learn to look for …

0:49 – The number of CFUs
2:22 – The Expiration Date
2:50 – The Bacteria Species
7:22 – Prebiotics
8:06 – What’s NOT In The Product

Follow these 5 simple rules and give your dog the naturally healthy life he deserves.

Way too much information. I still have no idea what probiotic to use. How about you just show one, or at least narrow it down. I don’t need to be a specialist and I will never remember all this.

Very informative ideas Dana madam! Learnt what are the bacteria to look for in my Jonnys probiotics.
Yesterday received my first lot of supplements from Four Leaf Rover!

Thank you so much for empowering us pet parents.

Please make your products available in India. We desperately need them. My baby diagnosed with EPI.

This is great, thank you! How much is too much protein in the probiotics? My dog is currently trying native pet probiotics but says it has 72% crude protein is that too high??

  21. @AbdulDean448 on October 26, 2024 at 4:05 pm

Is it normal for dogs to get diarrhea from probiotics? My dog seems to get it even with 1/4 of recommended dose of a gut guard. Is this a sign of detoxing? Repopulating of good bacteria? I am not sure if I should continue with the probiotic or fast my dog clear the gut. Or should I keep trying for a few days. I am worried it is harming her. My dog eats a home cooked diet normally has good stools with occasional diarrhea. I have tried Protect and it also gave her diarrhea. I am really puzzled on what to do. She is currently on colostrum from four leaf rover

  25. @cjpatterson4711 on October 26, 2024 at 4:08 pm

Can I just encourage my dog to eat soil? Just kidding. I wonder if the amount of probiotics in a dogs guts depends on its diet. Do raw diets naturally have more probiotics? I am not at the Raw level yet. I cook chicken and beef for my dog. Probiotics seem to be a specialty in itself. Now only if I had taken notes.

  38. @valthatcher1235 on October 26, 2024 at 4:20 pm

Yes it is a big help. So much is new to me. I would just keep buying probiotics bc my cancerous 11 yo Lab was getting diarraha. She’s improved probably by mistake and so many different kinds and brands. Now I know what to look for. Do you have a list or I could copy for reference?

  39. @MartyBrown-zi4yx on October 26, 2024 at 4:20 pm

If my dog is now on a raw frozen diet that includes green tripe (BJ’S), do I still need to give her Protect or Gut Guard? (DNM – Four Leaf Rover)

  40. @Rayofsunshine7 on October 26, 2024 at 4:21 pm

Hi, I did read on one of your articles on your website that you can give probiotics that is used for humans. Any brand in particular that you may recommend because there are tons of them. Unfortunately, dog probiotics are so expensive.
